PEW PEW PEW
Rotofugi Gallery / Chicago / September 2017
For my second show at Rotofugi Gallery in Chicago I made a series of paintings inspired by 1980's video games, Japanese animation, and robot toys. It's called PEW PEW PEW.
I’ve realized, slower than most people, probably, that a large portion of my work is about my childhood. About growing up watching cartoons, reading comic books, and playing video games, and having the expectation that I would grow up into a future filled with robots, ray guns, and pitched sci-fi battles in exotic space ships. Of course most of those things haven’t quite come to pass. In this show I went back in time to more closely examine some of those early influences on my life, like Voltron and Nintendo and Japanese Anime. This is what fell out of my head, I guess?
